VOLLEYBALLVolleyball is a sport consisting of two teams, with six players on each team. Teams score points when the other team miss the ball inside the lines, and a point is awarded on every serve. To win, the team needs to score to 25 points on three out of five matches.
The Lethbridge Public Library has an outdoor volleyball net to loan. It is the kind of net that requires pilot holes for the pole sleeves to be inserted into, so some digging is required. A fun variation to volleyball is 'balleyball', where instead of using your hands to contact the ball, you hold a large exercise ball in your hands. All other rules are basically the same. WATER BALLOON FIGHTFor this activity all you have to do is fill up balloons with water, and your friends! This is the perfect activity on a hot sunny day. There are no rules to this game, all you have to do is hit the other person with the balloon, have fun, then pick up the pieces when you are done!
An alternative to a water balloon fight could be a wet sponge fight. Buy several large sponges from the dollar store (the large ones can be cut into 3-4 smaller sponges) then arm each player with a bucket half full of water, and their share of the sponges. To make the fun go a little more smoothly, here are a couple of things you might want to do:

A fun alternative to water balloons is sponge bombs! Check out the video to see how to make them.

WHEELBARROW RACEIn a wheelbarrow race, teams of two players race with one teammate as the driver, and one as the wheelbarrow. The driver holds the other player's ankles, while the wheelbarrow player walks on his/her hands to the finish line. This game is commonly played at family reunions, fairs and school fun days.
It sis recommended that you play on grass rather than a hard surface like an indoor floor (just in case). |
YARD WORK AND RAKINGOne of the best kinds of exercise is good, old-fashioned yard work. You can work all parts of your body, and burn calories. Some of the things you could do include:
