Ice SkatingIce skating is a popular winter activity in Canada, find a rink and go skate with friends or family to get your body moving! Need skates? Bert and Mac's Source for Sports rents skates, but you can also ask around, and hopefully borrow from a friend.
To access the public skating and shinny schedule at Lethbridge Rinks, visit the City of Lethbridge website. There are many free public skates every week. If you are considering ice skating outdoors on one of Lethbridge's lakes or ponds, please check first to find out if the ice is safe to skate on. City crews check ice depth regularly to help keep us safe! One more awesome skating option for you! The Lethbridge Sport Council has a sheet of synthetic ice. The ice will also be set us at SportFest 2017. Interested in skating lessons? You can contact: Lethbridge Skating Club Lethbridge Learn to Skate Association |
JUGGLINGJuggling consists of tossing many objects in the air at the same time, it requires great hand eye coordination. You most common props you can use to juggle are balls, clubs, or rings. For beginners, try using scarfs instead of balls; the scarfs are light enough that gives you more time to think and juggle. Have fun!

JUMP ROPE AND SKIPPINGI've always been told that skipping or jumping rope is one of the best exercises. Skipping is a full body exercise, using the abdominal muscles to stabilize the body, legs for jumping, and arms and upper body to turn the rope. Grab a jump rope, and head outside to skip and burn some calories!
The Lethbridge Public Library has 7', 8' and 9' speed ropes in their loanable equipment collection that you can borrow, if you don't have a skipping rope already. How to pick the correct length for a skipping rope: When you stand on the middle of the jump rope and pull both ends up toward the sky, the tips of the rope should reach your armpits. If the rope falls short of your armpits, the rope will not hit the ground as it passes under your feet when you jump. If the rope comes up well past your armpits, you may trip on the extra length and the rope may become tangled as you jump. |
KENDAMAKendama was originated in Japan, to play Kendama, the player needs to hold the toy, and then pull the ball upward so that it may either be caught in one of the cups or land with the whole on the spike.
The Lethbridge Sport Council has several Kendamas for people to borrow and try, use our online equipment forum to request to borrow one! |
KICK THE CANThis game requires at least five people, and a large outdoor space. To play, one person is designated to be "it" and an empty can is placed in the open playing field. With eyes closed, "it" counts to an agreed upon number, and the other players run and hide. "It" will then try and find and tag the other players. Any player who is tagged is sent to "jail", usually in plain sight of the can. The rest of the free players attempt to kick the can before being tagged out. If the players kick the can without being caught, they set all the captured players free.

KUBB
Kubb is a lawn game where the object is to knock over wooden blocks, known as Kubbs, by throwing wooden batons at them, known as "kastpinnar." Kubb can be described perhaps as a combination of bowling and horseshoes.
Play takes place on a small rectangular playing field, known as a 'pitch'. 'Kubbs' are placed at both ends of the pitch, and the 'king', a larger wooden block, is placed in the middle of the pitch. Some rules vary from country to country and from region to region, but the ultimate object of the game is to knock over the 'kubbs' on the opposing side of the pitch, and then to knock over the 'king', before the opponent does. Games can last from five minutes to well over an hour. The game can be played on a variety of surfaces such as grass, sand, concrete, snow, or even ice. The alleged viking origin of the game has led some players and kubb fans to nickname the game “Viking Chess”. The Lethbridge Sport Council has kubb available for loan so you can try it at home! Check out the equipment forum to request to borrow it. |
