CANOEING AND KAYAKINGHave you ever wondered exactly what the difference is between a canoe and a kayak?
In general, kayaks are considered to be a type of canoe. The recreational activity of “canoeing" can often refer to paddling either a canoe or a kayak. Kayak enthusiasts, though, will usually refer to paddling a kayak as “kayaking." Both canoes and kayaks are lightweight boats that can be used on lakes and rivers. They are also both powered by humans using paddles. They can both be used for various recreational activities, such as fishing, and they can both travel in shallow water. Visit Active Lethbridge for locations to canoe and kayak inside and outside of Lethbridge Some creative residents put a new spin on kayaking after the first snowfall in October of 2016, check out the video, the whole thing is pretty spectacular, but check out 0:30. |

CAPTURE THE FLAGFor this game, make sure you have a large outdoor space such as a field, two flags, and two teams. You will need a center line that separate the two zones, also known as "jails".
At the beginning of each game, each group needs to hide their flag somewhere in their territory, somewhat visible and not impossible to retrieve by the other team. The goal of the game is to find and grab the other team's flag and bring it back to your zone. If members of the other team enters your zone, you can tag them to "imprison" them in your zone. Whichever team retrieves their opponent's flag first, wins. Have fun and good luck! |
CHEERLEADINGDid you know that cheerleading is over 100 years old, and there are at least 4 million cheerleaders in 31 countries? In fact, the first cheerleaders where men. So the story goes... it was a cold day on November 2, 1898, at the University of Minnesota, and football fans were not smiling. The home team was losing, and things looked grim. Then, a tremendous roar made the crowd sit up and pay attention. Six male college students, led by Johnny Campbell, had run onto the field. They were cheering for the home team with all their might. They called themselves the "Yell Captains" and they were America's first official cheerleaders.
